Free Horse Racing Picks

Simply put, horse handicapping is the art of predicting horses who have the greatest chance of winning a race. And no one does it better than Wunderdog Sports. The Sport of Kings has had a home here since I started making picks and it takes a keen eye and (ahem) horse sense to pick winners in one of the oldest wagering sports on earth.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Golden State Warriors

Golden State seems to do this every round, that is give the opponent a win in an otherwise lopsided series before putting them away the next time out with relative ease. Look for that trend to continue as the Warriors go for another Gentleman's Sweep after losing 119-109 on Tuesday when Luke Doncic scored 30 points for the desperate Mavericks.

It snapped a nine-game winning streak in Western Conference finals games for Golden State and now it goes home where the Warriors have covered nine of their past 11 games. Dallas is 1-5 ATS its last six road games and 9-4 OVER its past 13 on the road and 12-5 OVER overall against teams with winning records.

Game 4 went OVER by 12 points as the teams combined to shoot nearly 50-percent overall. 14 of the past 20 meetings have soared OVER. Golden State lost to Memphis by 39 points in Game 5 when leading 3-1 in the conference semifinals and then blew out the Grizzlies in Game 6.

Look for a similar result tonight. Play the Warriors to cover, and take the OVER.

My Pick: Golden State -7 (-105)

Why do I give Horse Racing picks for free?

Wunderdog Free Horse Racing Picks

I have changed with the times, and have incorporated parts of all of these factors into my selection process as well as others with my horse racing picks. They are all tools, and like all tools they can build or destroy. The only one I would put well above the others is my knowledge of what I see every day. Since I do this EVERYDAY, I find it second nature to view as many as 50 to 80 races each afternoon. Some I may look at as many as 3 or 4 times to find that hidden nuances that would escape the average viewer. I take extensive trip notes, track bias notes, post position & hot and cold trainer and rider combinations. All of these elements are necessary in arriving at a sound, logical selection process. I do this for others just as diligently as I do it for myself. As important as all of the new information available to the horseplayer, are the wagers themselves.

In that long ago era mentioned above, the only exotic wager available was the daily double and maybe a tri-fecta on the final race of the card. Now the possibilities are endless. I incorporate win bets, exactas, trifectas and pick-3's and an occasional pick-4 into our wagering strategy with our horse handicapping picks & tips. Again the key is to use your knowledge of handicapping to correctly assess what type of wagering strategy fit's the situation best. Most of my daily selections come from major tracks from around the country. This includes tracks running now such as Aqueduct in New York, Keeneland/ Churchill Downs in Kentucky, Finger Lakes in upstate New York, which is a track I love to bet on and any other racing venue where I feel a potential winning play can be spotted. In my wagering strategies, I give you suggested amounts for every play I makeon my horse handicapping picks. This is just a guideline. Each day when I post my results, they are based on the exact amounts which I have stated.

Horse racing betting philosophy

Horse Racing Picks: Some Factors To Consider

  • The Track conditions: certain track conditions vastly favor different styles of runners.

  • Breeding: Pedigree analysis is only significant when analyzing a horse that has not had ample (or no) opportunity to show what it can do under today's conditions. First-time-starters bred for sprint speed vs. those bred to run best going longer. Sprinters trying to go long. Dirt types moving to turf.

  • Speed: Speed is pretty easy to explain, as the horse that runs the fastest generally wins more races. But there is a bit more to it than that as I look at training races and "speed figures" to determine which animal has the best chance of winning a race.

  • Pace: Pace is perhaps one of the strongest determining factors in horse handicapping. Pace is used to determine the running style of each horse and whether they are a front runner, stalker, presser, or closer.

  • Form: Form is simply an "eye test." If you see that a horse ran well in a previous outing or training session, chances are that they are in good form for a repeat performance.

Style: Each style is very different and can go a long way to determine who goes to the winner's circle.

  • Class: Another great tactic in picking racing winners is the form of the race horse. You probably wouldn't but a college baseball pitcher in to pitch to the New York Yankees lineup. The same goes for horse racing and that is the "class" of the horse. There are different levels of racing where class becomes a huge factor as faster horses tend to race against faster and slower vs. slower. So you wouldn't put a slower overall horse in against a crew of fireballs and hope to come out ahead, right?

  • Post position: Post position is another mitigating factor in handicapping the horses. The horse that is placed on the outside of the track has a longer distance to travel than the racers nearer to the rail (inside). Now this may sound pretty elementary, but it is a huge factor that can vastly affect the outcome of the races.

  • Jockey: The jockey piloting the horse has a lot to do with the pace of the animal, and I factor that too.

I go into more detail on some of these factors in this article on horse handicapping.

Predictions Track record

If you're like most bettors, you might find it hard to resist the urge of getting a bet or two down when the first Saturday in May rolls around. Of course, I'm talking about the Kentucky Derby, otherwise known as the first leg of the Triple Crown, and getting you set for Churchill Downs is my top priority for the racing season each year.

In 2022, my top two Kentucky Derby picks (Epicenter and Zandon) were in position coming down the stretch until the seas parted for Rich Strike (80-1), who was shot out of a cannon and overtook them both.

2022 Kentucky Derby Results

1. Rich Strike
2. Epicenter
3. Zandon

Then, in 2023, two of my top horses finished in the top three, as I called Angel of Empire (8-1) and Two Phil's (12-1), along with Tapit Trice.

2023 Kentucky Derby Results

1. Mage
2. Two Phil's
3. Angel of Empire

I release picks for each leg of the Triple Crown, with selections from multiple races leading up to the main event. No matter how you like to bet the ponies—be it Win-Place-Show or exotic wagering with exacta and trifectas—I have the horses to build your card around.

For the second leg at Pimlico (Race #13, the Preakness Stakes), my top pick in 2022 was #8 Epicenter, which placed for $2.80. My third pick on #5 Early Voting won outright, paying back $13.40.

Check out my detailed analysis of the Preakness for an example of what you can expect with all of my premium horse racing packages.

My 2023 results at the Belmont Stakes were incredible, picking winners in four different races!

2023 Belmont Park Race Results

> Race 7: Clairiere winning at $5.50/$3.00/$2.30 (my top pick)

> Race 8: Arabian Lion winning at $6.70/$3.90/$3.10 (my top pick)

> Race 10: Cody’s Wish winning at $3.30/$2.40/$2.30 (my top pick)

> Race 11: Up to the Mark, winning at $5.30/$4.40/$2.80 (my top pick)

To cap it all off, I offer special sheets for the Breeders' Cup Classic each season, and while it was nearly impossible to cap my results from Belmont, I still delivered by picking outright winners in two high-profile races, along with two places and a show.

2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf
Winner: Hard to Justify (9/1) - $20.20/$8/$5

2023 Qatar Racing Breeders’ Cup Sprint
Winner: Elite Power (8/5) - $5.40/$3.60/$2.80

The past two years have been nothing short of epic, and I'll have premium picks ready for you this summer when that familiar post-call bugle blows loud.

Success Stories

Don’t just take my word for it, check out the hundreds of Wunderdog success stories.

“You are the only and most honest gamer I have ever seen.  Thank you for all the winners you have given me over time. Since I only do Horses, I have to wait on your picks for Belmont-Preakness and all the great money makers... Thank you, Wunderdog. PS. I have been with you since the beginning. I am #49. ”

Linda Johnson

In it for the long haul

“Mr. Dog, I have tried so many handicappers it is unbelievable. I have never been happy with them because they lie about their records and take your money. You are the first handicapper who has been honest, proven your winning record by posting results daily, not lying about how many winners you had, and getting the picks out in a timely manner. I am sure there will be losing streaks, but I believe I have found the only handicapper that can produce winners and profit over the long haul. Thanks. ”

Ted F. - Knoxville, TN

“Nice picks. You are unbelievable when handicapping fast dirt tracks. Another observation: In many of your races, I noticed that the winner is invariably one of your first two picks. How you do it is beyond me. Best regards.”

Paul R. - Pawtucket, RI

Value play

“I have to tell you that the vast majority of the sports touts that sell their picks would not really care if one of their packages was a loser. You, on the other hand, truly care about your customers and also your reputation. I want to commend you on your high values and would like to say that you are the only person that I would buy picks from. Keep up the excellent work!”

Raj B. - Boston, MA

“Your horse bet tips have been top shelf....Thank you.... I am retired on a fixed income...So I am not a big bettor.....My wife would Elain Bobbitt me if I did...But just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you....Sincerely....Jim Thompson”

Jim Thompson - Sanford, FL

“I mistakenly tried another company for picks just for the weekend. It was awful. Not good. All wrong. Same with this other company I subscribed to. It’s been a massive waste. But your plays come with the “why” and full transparency the day of/after. Long story short, yours is the only one I’m gonna use.”
