Las Vegas needed a monster performance from A'ja Wilson just to make it close last time out, and it still wasn't enough. Wilson dropped 38 points in a 100-99 loss to Washington, a final line that says as much about a leaky Aces defense as it does about her brilliance, and Las Vegas returns from the All-Star break carrying that one-point sting into a get-right spot against a shorthanded Portland club that's already lost two frontcourt players for the season. I won't oversell Portland's health or its 11-16 record, but the number matters more than either of those facts here. These two have split the burden of covering this year: Las Vegas cleared this exact spread in the first meeting back in June, a 16-point win, but needed just eight points to beat Portland the second time around in July, comfortably inside tonight's number. A defense that just allowed 100 points to a Washington team is not a lock to blow out anyone by double digits, and Portland's losses down the stretch, outside of Wilson-fueled nights, have mostly stayed in single digits. Give me the Fire to keep this respectable behind whatever frontcourt it can piece together. Take Portland as my WNBA Game of the Week.

Pro Picks
Las Vegas at Portland
Portland snapped a three-game skid in the most encouraging way possible, going into Seattle and beating the Storm outright. Carla Leite has been the engine behind that turnaround, scoring in the mid-teens over her last several outings and giving the Fire an actual offensive identity at home. Las Vegas walks in coming off a stunner of its own, an 84-68 loss to Indiana that exposed just how much the Aces lean on one player. A'ja Wilson is questionable again tonight, having already sat out three straight, and the roster around her has struggled to replace her scoring and gravity in the paint. If she plays and plays close to full strength, Las Vegas still has the higher ceiling in this building. But the number gives Portland a big cushion to work with against a team that just lost to a Caitlin Clark-less Fever squad, and the money has already found its way to the Fire side tonight. Take Portland on the spread.

Las Vegas at Portland
A'ja Wilson just became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 6,000 career points, getting there in her last outing with 34 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and three blocks against Seattle. Las Vegas arrives in Portland on a four-game winning streak at 8-3. That is the honest case against this play. Here is what the market is discounting: the Portland Fire already beat New York on the road earlier this season, and they lead the league in steals. Las Vegas runs its offense through ball movement and Chelsea Gray's playmaking. A team generating takeaways at the highest rate in the WNBA creates transition buckets and rhythm disruptions that make any road favorite uncomfortable, particularly at a venue the Aces have not visited in franchise memory. The +400 line implies that Portland needs to win roughly once in five to show a profit. A 6-7 home team with proven upset capacity and an elite defensive disruptive element doesn't price out at 20% against any road opponent. At these odds, the Fire are worth a small bet.
