San Jose at Colorado

This is the first meeting of the season and San Jose catches the Avalanche in the midst of a five-game losing streak, including two overtime defeats in its last two games. Colorado has scored more than two goals just once its last seven games and goalie Semyon Varlamov has lost his last three starts and he now owns an 11-8-5 record with a 2.80 goals-against average and .912 save percentage. That's not too bad, but he hasn't gotten much support from his teammates offensively. San Jose lost a wild 8-5 game at Calgary on Monday, but the Sharks had won their previous two games while scoring 11 goals and they have won four of their last five road games.  Also, San Jose is 21-8 its last 29 games after losing by at least three goals dating to last season. The Sharks are also 41-20 their last 61 games versus opponents that scored two or fewer goals in their previous game. Colorado has lost four of its last five home games, so play the Sharks.
