Wednesday Free NHL Hockey Picks

Wednesday is the middle of a busy work week for most of us but the Wednesday NHL hockey schedule is often pared down. There are fewer games with a handful of select divisional matchups featured. Even though the betting card may be slim, the betting choices are not. For every hockey game, there are multiple types of NHL pick wagers offered. There are straight NHL moneylines simply to pick the winner of the game, how many total goals are scored by both squads, and puck lines and NHL props, just to name a few. It's a dynamite night for serious bettors to pad their pockets before the big hockey weekend.

Why Use Wednesday Free NHL Picks

Assessing who is going to win requires careful study of teams, stats, matchups, on-ice situations, and styles of play. Stats and NHL computer matchups are a great place to start. They're widely available and most hockey fans have spent years reviewing them anyway, either casually or more in-depth. But there are other significant (some subtle) facets of the sports betting world that come into play. The oddsmakers know all of these angles as well and incorporate them when making betting lines. Reading up on daily handicapping advice such as Wednesday free NHL picks and following NHL public consensus picks helps hone your skills and improve your game.

Betting Value in Wednesday Free NHL Hockey Picks

The professional oddsmakers aren't dummies. They're not in business to give money away. But they're not perfect either, and there are many weak lines on the wagering card each night that can be exploited by savvy bettors. The coaching style of play is one of many areas where this comes into play against the odds. Some coaches lean on some of their fastest skaters to attack on offense. This can produce more shots on goal and scoring, but it can also come at a cost defensively. During one recent campaign, the New York Islanders were Top 10 defensively but were one of the weakest offensive teams. That was by design. That season, the Islanders had two separate stretches where they went 13-5 UNDER the total. Instead of trying to identify whether the favorite or the underdog is going to win, NHL totals can offer far better wagering value with certain teams.

Premium Wednesday NHL Picks Cons:

  • Beware skeptical of hyperbole such as "this play cannot lose"

  • You're losing money on games and on the service if they can't deliver an increased profit margin

How To Win With Wednesday Free NHL Picks

Casual bettors wager for fun, preferring such things as three-team parlays. But serious bettors use limited parlays as they're in it to win it long term. The sportsbooks are in it to win it, as well, so besting the Vegas odds with your own money requires a serious attitude, careful study, discipline, and knowing the numbers. It can be done and I've been winning consistently for over two decades in multiple sports. And a good place to start is by arming yourself with as much hockey information as you can, including free Wednesday NHL picks from an established and documented pro.

Wednesday Free NHL Hockey Picks Betting Strategy

Division Rivalries

Strong stats may suggest that one team should be the favorite in an NHL matchup but not all games are created equal. Division rivalries will dot the Wednesday night slate and this has to be taken into account when you handicap. Divisional games can have greater importance for a coaching staff as one of their regular season goals is to win the division. One team might be a home underdog, but if you combine home ice with a divisional matchup, this gives the dog two edges in their favor. The stats might still say they should be the underdog, but other elements are in play such as situational factors, home/road play, and divisional rivalries. In one recent campaign, Calgary was the best team in the Pacific, but in the first two meetings of the season, divisional rival Vancouver gave them two close games. Vancouver lost the first meeting at Calgary, 1-0, as a +170, then won at home, 7-1, as a +140 home underdog.

Reverse Puck Line

The reverse puck line is that +1.5 or -1.5 number you see attached to the odds. -1.5 is the favorite and means that team not only has to win the game but has to do it by more than one goal. One could use that with a good offensive team that is expected to rout a weaker opponent. A reverse puck line puts more things into play with the underdog at +1.5. If you wager that and the underdog wins the game, you win the bet. If the underdog loses the game by one goal, you still win the wager. A situation to utilize the reverse puck line on the underdog would be with a terrific defensive team as an NHL underdog. They might have a mediocre record or even a poor one, probably because the offense isn't very good. But if the defense is very good, you'll likely find them in a lot of 2-1 or 3-2 games. A strong defensive team is capable of pulling an upset anytime even if they're on a 2-8 run losing a string of 2-1 games. Picking a strong defensive team on the reverse puck line in the right situation or matchup gives a bettor multiple ways to win.

Player Prop Bets

If there are only a few games on the Wednesday hockey card, that limits the number of sides and totals available. But prop bets expand your wagering opportunities. Look for a good offensive team facing a weak defensive one. That top offensive players are better suited for a good offensive game racking up a goal and an assist, for instance. Backing them OVER 1.5 total goals and assists would be a live proposition. Another prop is shots on goal, which would be listed as OVER/UNDER 2.5 SOG (-115) on specific players. This can be used if one team is facing a strong defensive team that clogs the lane in front of the net or one that has an abundance of big, physical defensemen who limit or redirect the number of shots on goal. The offensive player could have a rough night getting quality shots off and be worth a look at UNDER the prop bet.

Each morning I examine all the NHL games on the card along with the numerous odds on each game. After careful research, I compile a string of key handicapping factors on the ice to isolate the top plays at the betting window. One of my many specialties is dogs. Anyone can identify favorites that should win, but picking winning underdogs is a key to increasing your betting bankroll over the course of a season.
