Los Angeles is banking on Matt Stafford to get back to the Super Bowl, and he'll want to get off to a good start in his new home. Stafford threw for 4,084 yards with 26 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 2020. He has thrown for 45,109 yards and 282 TDs in his career, but he never had any luck in the postseason with Detroit, which is a perennial disappointment. Now with better players around him on both sides of the ball, the Rams believe Stafford is the key to being a championship contender. The Rams suffered a severe blow when RB Cam Akers went down with a season-ending injury, but the keys to the season will still be Stafford and the defense, led by the 2020 Defensive Player of the Year, Aaron Donald. John Wolford, Bryce Perkins, and Devlin Hodges back up Stafford, who will probably see more action than normal in the preseason to get acclimated to the new offense. Wolford started for Goff in last year's wild-card game, but he left in the first quarter with a neck injury. Perkins hasn't played in a regular-season game, and Hodges played in eight games for Pittsburgh in 2019, completing 62.5% of his passes. The Chargers have a new coach in Brandon Staley, who was the Rams' defensive coordinator. Chase Daniel and Easton Stick will back up Justin Herbert. Daniel has been in the league since 2010 while Stick has played one game with one pass attempt. With only three preseason games this year, and with a new coach for the Chargers and a new QB for the Rams, both teams will want to get their offenses going in time for the regular season.
