Losing an NBA playoff game can pay dividends in the next game. It's difficult to pinpoint a universal why, but there will be reasons. A good team can have a subpar game, but they're too good to keep struggling for another four quarters. Other times, a team will turn it up a notch down 2-1 in a series, or a coach will make adjustments from the previous game that pay off by surprising or disrupting the opponent.

Defense is another element that shines when the whole season comes down to one game. Since 2020, the Boston Celtics have played in five Game 7s, and all five stayed UNDER the total. One was a 92-87 game versus Toronto, and in another against Milwaukee, the total was bet down from 209 to 206, and the UNDER still cashed easily in a 109-81 final.
