LSU vs. Houston

Yes, LSU had a rough year, going through a coaching change and finishing the regular season at 7-5. Keep in mind, though, this is a strong SEC team that has won eight of its last 10 bowl games, including the past three. The Tigers have had some opt-outs, but they employ a deep roster, and the remaining players want to look suitable for incoming coach Lane Kiffin. Houston is in a bowl for the first time in three seasons. Kudos to Willie Fritz, who, in his second season as the Cougars' head coach, led them to their best record since 2021. Yet Houston doesn't get to travel, as the Texas Bowl is being played in Houston. Not being rewarded with a trip has to be disappointing for the Cougars and could lead to complacency. Houston was 6-0 on the road, but only 3-3 at home. The Cougars are going to have to contend with a very good LSU defense that ranked 14th in scoring defense, holding foes to 18.3 points a game. The Tigers also ranked ninth in takeaways and gave up the 25th fewest yards. Take LSU.
