Houston at Arizona

A pair of non-conference teams that like to run the football clash in this one. Running chews up yards and keeps the clock moving. Last week Arizona threw only 13 passes in a rout of Northern Arizona. Arizona had six players finish with at least 50 yards rushing. Houston is in town with a new QB and coaching staff. They lost talented QB Greg Ward but eight starters are back on defense, including DT Ed Oliver, a freshman All-American Defensive Player of the Year. This defense was outstanding in 2016, #10 in the nation in points allowed, third against the run. Houston's offense won't be in mid-season form -- it will be in opening day form as this is their first game. Houston is on a 5-1 run UNDER the total, including 4-1 UNDER in non-conference games. That included an impressive upset of the high-octane Oklahoma offense last September, allowing 23 points -- the worst offensive showing all season by a Sooner offense that ended up second in the nation in yards and third in points.
