East Carolina vs. Coastal Carolina

Coastal Carolina started 9-1 before losing its last two games, but the Chanticleers got lucky for this game when QB Grayson McCall said he would play in it first and then enter the transfer portal. McCall is a three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year and threw for 2,633 yards and 24 touchdowns with just two interceptions this season. East Carolina inflated the posted total for this game as its defense fell apart the last two games when the Pirates allowed a combined 88 points against Houston and Temple. Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell is headed to Liberty and defensive coordinator Chad Staggs will coach the bowl game. This is the first bowl appearance for East Carolina since 2014 although they were to play in the Military Bowl last year, but it was canceled due to COVID. The Pirates are led by QB Holton Ahlers, who threw for 3,408 yards and 23 TDs and Keaton Mitchell, who ran for 1,325 yards on 7.4 yards per carry. East Carolina is 9-4 UNDER its past 13 non-conference games and 8-1 UNDER after scoring at least 40 points its previous game.
