Akron at Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON BOWL - Akron is used to winning and playing in Bowls for sixth-year coach Terry Bowden. It's their second bowl game in the last three years. Two years ago they were a +7 dog in a Bowl and upset Utah State 23-21. They won games this season as an underdog over Buffalo and Ohio, plus lost 22-17 at Troy as a +17 dog. Akron fell to Toledo 45-28 in the Mid-American Conference championship game but still finished with a winning record. The team allowed 93 points in two meetings with Toledo but otherwise yielded a respectable 22.6 points per contest in conference play. The Zips are also on an 8-2 spread run. They match up well with a Florida Atlantic squad that is not used to playing in Bowl games, as this is its first bowl game since 2008. Florida Atlantic is one-dimensional on offense, ranked #81 in passing yards. The Owls are a huge favorite but the defense is weak at #42 in points allowed, #93 in passing yards surrendered (242 per game) and #67 against the run (165.8 yards per contest).
