Brent Key is doing a tremendous job in his third year as head coach of Georgia Tech, which is 5-0 this season. However, except for Clemson, the schedule hasn't been too formidable, and the Yellow Jackets have not covered their past two games as double-digit favorites against Temple and Wake Forest. They had to go overtime to defeat the Demon Deacons after erasing a 20-3 third-quarter deficit. Georgia Tech is 0-5 ATS with rest off a win. Virginia Tech has covered three of four meetings, including a 21-6 victory last year as an 11-point favorite. The Hokies are 8-1 ATS in their past nine October games. They have won two of three outright since Philip Montgomery took over as the interim head coach. The Hokies will need to limit Georgia Tech's running game and force a turnover or two; they showed they are capable of doing so after limiting N.C. Virginia Tech lost their opening game to Vanderbilt, but Vanderbilt has been much better than expected. They gave up 38 points in a four-point loss to Miami, which sounds like a lot, but it was the fewest points Miami has scored all season. Virginia Tech shows value here on a lower scoring game than indicated as the Hokies have allowed just 17 PPG in their other five contests. Georgia Tech opened the season with what looked like a huge upset of Florida St., but Florida St. has a 1-6 record and is nothing like what they were expected to be which was a Top 5 team. They held Louisville to 31 in a game that finished below this total, and they held Notre Dame to 31. The Irish had averaged 43 PPG in their four previous games.
