Connecticut at Chicago

Chicago needed 31 points from Sydney Taylor just to fall by one to New York Tuesday, a 95-94 loss that came with the Sky already down Skylar Diggins for the year and DiJonai Carrington banged up enough to be day-to-day. Connecticut isn't playing well either, dropping its third straight road game in a 92-84 loss at Washington, but the margin matters: that's an eight-point game against a good team, not the kind of number that suggests real separation between these two clubs. I won't pretend Connecticut's season has been anything but rough, a 2-10 mark in conference play that says plenty about how far off this roster is. But Chicago is the one absorbing real losses to its rotation right now, not just to form, and a thinned-out Sky team that barely survived Tuesday's finish shouldn't be favored by this much. Connecticut has kept its recent losses to manageable margins rather than getting run off the floor, and that pattern is the more useful signal tonight than either team's record.
