LOSS

Virginia Tech started the season with a very high-profile loss to Boise State. They followed that up with a loss to James Madison in a game in which they were favored by 33 points. That's the image of Tech that still remains in most peoples' minds. They think of them as a dissapointing team that was overrated. But, we learned that the Broncos were an extremely talented team so that loss isn't crazy. Obviously the loss the James Madison was terrible, but I am now convinced that it was due to the Boise State hangover. Why do I say that? This team has gone on from that game to win 11 straight games. There is no hotter team in the nation. How did they fare against the spread in those 11 games? They went 10-1. This team is on a mission to prove that they belong, and they are underrated. If they somehow pull out the win vs. Boise State (they lost by 3 points), this team could actually be undefeated! Yet, we get them plus more than a field goal here. That's because Stanford has been a great story. They are 11-1 and they have a heisman candidate QB and a high-profile coach that's garnering a lot of attention right now due to rumors of an NFL job. While the spotlight is on Stanford, I expect Tech to come out fired up, continuing to play the no respect card. Andrew Luck is a great QB but Tech can defend him. The Hokies are 8-1 ATS the past three seasons vs. teamst hat pass for 250+ yards per game. Under Frank Beamer, they 24-11 ATS vs. such teams. They are also 16-7 ATS as a dog of 3.5 to 10 points in the Beamer era. I like Tech here.
