The San Diego Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates are a pair of contending teams that got off to a rocky start, but have now found their way. The Pirates come in on a season long six game winning streak, while San Diego has now won three of four. The Pirates have caught lightning in a bottle with 38-year-old A.J. Burnett, who is 4-1 and leads MLB with a 1.38 ERA. Those numbers are going to adjust themselves as they are unsustainable. Ian Kennedy is just getting back into form after a miserable start and a hamstring injury that put him on the shelf for two weeks. He is off a strong game vs. the hard-hitting Dodgers' attack, and appears to have found a groove. Burnett has a poor track record vs. San Diego at 3-7 in 11 starts and a 4.23 ERA. Kennedy has the better numbers in this matchup at 3.66 in eight starts vs. the Pirates, and the Padres are also playing at home. The Pirates own a 21-9-1 record to the UNDER in Burnett's last 31 starts vs. a losing team, and sustaining offense has been problematic for the team as well, as they are now 18-6-2 to the UNDER in their last 26 after scoring 5+ runs in their previous contest. The Padres share the same dilemma as they are 8-1 to the UNDER behind Kennedy after scoring 5+ in their previous game. Burnett is not a fan of opening a series as the Pirates are just 3-14 in his last 17 in game one of a series. Play San Diego and the UNDER.
