DEL MAR Race #6
Thursday 08/14 04:35 PM Eastern
Top pick: #6 (SWEET AS A ROSE) (3-1) - She may have been best while finishing second in each of her last two starts. Daughter of "War Pass" was very wide in her latest after being forced to rally up the inside in her previous race. The horse to beat.
2nd pick: #2 (Penny Sixpence) (5-2) - French import is speedy, lightly raced, and is working nicely for her first off a two month break. Trainer Neil Drysdale removes her blinkers and has Bejarano aboard for the first time. Win candidate.
3rd pick: #7 (Freethinker) (7-2) - Home bred filly by "Empire Maker" rallied to finish third here last out and was only a 1/2 length back of "Sweet as a Rose." It was a career best and came off a 5 1/2 month layoff. She's worked well since and must be left in the mix.
4th pick: #3 (Williams Bay) (5-1) - Filly raced both wide and evenly when debuting on June 21st going "down the hill" at Santa Anita. Freshened up since, she's working nicely for a strong second out barn (Tom Proctor 25%).
5th pick: #4 (Charm Catcher) (12-1) - Bred/owned and trained by Ron McAnally, she continues to race evenly while finishing within range. Four-year-old hasn't raced in almost a year, so a small slice at a big price would appear to be her ceiling.
