Colorado at New York

New York has won four of the last five meetings with Colorado. The Rangers have solidified their defense with the addition of Kevin Shattenkirk to go along with Brendan Smith, Ryan McDonough and Brady Skjei in the top four. Henrik Lundqvist did not have one of his best seasons in 2016-17 with a .910 save percentage and 2.74 goals-against average, but he is more rested this year with no World Cup. Colorado had a club-record low of just 22 wins and 48 points and not much more is expected from the Avalanche this season as it didn't make a lot of changes for this year. Mikko Rantanen led Colorado with only 20 goals with the other three forwards Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchensane Gabriel Landeskog scoring 16, 18 and 18 goals, respectively. Semyon Varlamov played in 24 games last season and had a .898 save percentage. The Rangers are 44-21 their last 65 games versus Western Conference teams and the Avalanche is 13-38 its last 51 road contests. Lundqvist will have the edge against the weak Colorado offense.
