Akron at Memphis

Akron enters this game on a roll having won four of its last five and the MAC Championship game in dramatic fashion to secure the bowl bid. This is the first bowl game for the Zips and it figures to be a memorable one as they face possibly the best true TB in the country. Memphis has a hard time stopping the pass, which is Akron’s Luke Getsy’s bread and butter, while Akron has a hard time stopping the run, which DeAngelo Williams (173 ypg) is sure to take advantage of here. Memphis was handled with ease in last years GMAC game against Bowling Green. This should be a great match-up, but with it being Williams swan song in college and that will give the Tigers an edge. Akron can't run the ball (pitiful 3.4 per rush against teams allowing 4.1 on average) while Memphis can (5.3 per rush vs. teams allowing 4.5 on average). That should be big. Bowl teams that won 3 straight to end the year but weren't great on the year struggle in their bowl games ATS. The Tigers for one star.
