Veteran defensemen Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson are proving they are still effective, helping the Penguins hold opponents to 2.62 goals per game, which ranks sixth in the NHL. The Penguins have given up three or fewer goals in seven of their last nine games. However, one of those two games where they gave up more than three goals came this past Saturday in a 5-2 road loss to Winnipeg. Pittsburgh is concluding a four-game, seven-day road trip here. So don't expect a fast pace from the Penguins, especially after allowing five goals to the Jets in their last game. Toronto has been without William Nylander, a 45-goal scorer last season, for the past two games due to a lower-body injury. Nylander is questionable. Missing Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews has scored only two goals during five-on-five action. The Maple Leafs' power play has been a significant disappointment so far, ranking 30th in the league.
