Two teams that are contenders in the Metropolitan Division battle tonight, and Carolina is poised to go further in the playoffs after losing again to Florida last season. The Hurricanes return their core in Jaccob Slavin, Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Seth Jarvis while adding Nikolaj Ehlers and defenseman K'Andre Miller. The Hurricanes are 46-16 in their past 62 home games, including 14 wins in their past 19. Carolina has beaten the Devils 10 straight at home and five of six overall. Jacob Markstrom, who in his first season with New Jersey, posted a 2.50 goals-against average, .900 save percentage, and a 26-16-6 record.
