Edmonton at Washington

The Oilers are playing in their fifth road game in eight days. After getting past the Hurricanes, 4-3, in overtime last Saturday, fatigue caught up to the Oilers as they were soundly beaten 5-1 by the Sabres on Monday as a healthy favorite. The Capitals returned to their strong defensive ways, defeating the Kings 2-1 at home on Monday. The Kings entered that matchup with an 8-0-2 record in their last 10 road games. Washington accomplished the victory behind backup goalie Charlie Lindgren, who made 30 saves. Now the Oilers are expected to draw Logan Thompson, who has been great in net with a 1.85 GAA and .925 save rate. Edmonton is the flashier team. Washington, however, has the superior defense. The Capitals rank fourth defensively, yielding 2.5 goals per game. The Oilers permit 3.5 goals a game, which ranks 28th. That average climbs to 4.5 if you go by the last six games.
