Edmonton Oilers vs Ottawa Senators Betting Picks

Enough is enough. The Oilers are off to a slow start for the third consecutive season. No worries, though. They're playing Ottawa and not the Panthers in the Stanley Cup. Look for Edmonton to end a three-game losing streak with a victory here. The Oilers' 28th-ranked offense should get right against an Ottawa defense that rates last, along with San Jose, giving up five goals per game. The Senators have a minus-10 goal differential, the third worst in the league. Since upsetting the Lightning in their opening game, the Senators are 1-4. Ottawa made the playoffs for the first time in eight years last spring, but there has been no carryover. The loss of Brady Tkachuk (thumb) hasn't helped. With superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, Edmonton's attack is too good to stay down this long. McDavid has recorded at least one point in 26 of his last 27 appearances with the Oilers as favorites. Ottawa has winning records both home and away. They're playing great on an 8-1 run, off a 5-4 victory at Vancouver as an underdog. They've won four of their last five as a dog. The offense is 12th in goals scored and eighth on the power play, while the defense is 11th in goals given up (2.85 per game) and 12th in save percentage. Edmonton was a dominant home team last year (28-9-4) but is 11-7-1 in the new season. The offense is 15th on the power play, while the defense is 26th in penalty killing, 28th in shots on goal allowed, and 22nd in save percentage (.896). Edmonton looks to bounce back after a poor performance last night, getting shutout 3-0 in Montreal. The Oilers are 5-3-1 on the road and face an Ottawa squad that has lost two straight and four of six. The offense is 22nd in shooting percentage, while the defense is 20th in penalty killing, 17th in goals allowed, and 22nd in save percentage (.891). Ottawa has lost the last two games surrendering nine goals, coming off a 4-0 loss at Carolina. Ottawa is 2-4 in its last six games as an underdog of +105 or more. Play Edmonton. 

Edmonton has won the past three meetings and seven of the past 10 and the Oilers currently have won four of six although they do come off a 6-3 loss at Toronto on Saturday. Calvin Pickard will be in net after relieving Stuart Skinner, who had a bad night allowing five goals against the Maple Leafs. Pickard stopped all five shots he faced and he is 10-4-0 with a 2.20 goals-against average this season. Anton Forsberg is likely for Ottawa and he owns a 12-12-0 mark and a 3.42 goals-against average. The Senators have lost three of four, but they did beat New Jersey 5-2 last night. Ottawa is 0-8 as an underdog of +151 to +200 and 1-5 overall in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 days spot while Edmonton is 8-2 in that same situation.
