Boston Bruins vs Edmonton Oilers Betting Picks

Despite outshooting the Oilers, the Bruins lost to Edmonton, 3-1, at home on Dec. 18 in the team's previous meeting. That frustrating loss was the first of what has become a six-game losing streak for Boston. Lack of scoring is what is plaguing the Bruins. They have managed only 13 goals during their six-game losing skid. Boston covered the puck line, however, in its last game, a 2-1 road loss to the Flames this past Monday. Edmonton is leading the Pacific Division, but is just two points ahead of third-place Anaheim. This has been a down year in the Pacific Division, so that has allowed the Oilers to fatten their record. Boston can turn around its offense against this opponent. The Oilers rank 24th defensively, and their goaltending woes continue to haunt them, even after shipping off Stuart Skinner. Take the Bruins on the puck line.

Edmonton has a losing road mark and plays its fourth straight on a five-game trek. The defense is 28th in goals allowed (3.41 per game) and tied for 30th in save percentage (.878). Boston's defense is ninth in save percentage, while the offense is fifth on the power play. Boston has a winning road mark and is playing much better since the coaching change on a 9-4 run. They've won the last two, both on the road, at Vancouver (5-1) and Calgary (4-3). The Bruins have also won two of their last three as an underdog. Edmonton was a dominant home team last year (28-9-4) but is just 9-7-1 this season. They come off a 6-5 home loss to Florida as a -135 favorite. The defense is 24th in save percentage (.894) and 26th in penalty killing, while the offense is 21st in shooting percentage. Edmonton has won 17 of 29 on the road this season and the Oilers are seeking payback for a 6-5 overtime home loss to the Bruins on Feb. 21. The Oilers have won four in a row after defeating Pittsburgh 6-1 on Sunday when Zach Hyman had two goals and Ryan McLeod and Connor McDavid each had a goal and an assist to back Calvin Pickard, who stopped 22 shots. Stuart Skinner is likely back in net for the Oilers and he is 28-13-2 with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage. Skinner has allowed only five goals his past three starts and the Oilers have allowed only six goals during the four-game win streak. Boston has lost four of six although it does come off a 4-1 win over Toronto. This will be just the second home game for the Bruins since Feb. 19.
