San Francisco 49ers vs Tennessee Titans Point Spread Picks

Everything seems to be coming together for San Francisco, which has won five of its last six games, including a resounding, 31-13, victory over Atlanta on Sunday. Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 235 yards and a touchdown, and the defense came up with several big plays that prevented the Falcons from scoring in some red-zone situations as it put constant pressure on Matt Ryan. Tennessee has lost three of four as injuries have stalled what was looking like a great season for the Titans. They ran for 201 yards and still lost to Pittsburgh, which forced four turnovers by Tennessee. The Titans have averaged just 14.7 points their last four games, and the only win was against lowly Jacksonville. Ryan Tannehill finished 22 of 32 for 153 yards with no TDs and an interception against the Steelers. Tennessee is overrated. Their Pythagorean wins (expected wins based on points for and against) is just 7.7, compared to nine actual wins thus far. San Francisco looks like a different team than the one that started the season 3-5 as it has controlled the games on the ground on offense along with a fierce pass rush defensively. San Francisco has covered the spread four of five as a road favorite, and over the last three seasons, the 49ers are 17-6 straight-up on the road. The value here is on the 49ers to win straight up. San Francisco is giddy with the prospect of Jimmy Garoppolo becoming a franchise quarterback, but the 49ers are favored this week and they are 0-8 ATS in that situation dating to previous seasons. Tennessee is battling for a playoff spot while the Niners still are only 3-10 on the season and the three wins have been against the New York Giants, Chicago and Houston, none of which is a playoff contender. Marcus Mariota looks to bounce back from a 12-7 loss to Arizona in which he was intercepted twice and finished 16-of-31 for 159 yards.  Mariota has a left knee sprain, but is expected to start on Sunday. Tennessee has still won six of its last eight games and the Titans are 5-2-1 OVER their last eight games after scoring fewer than 15 points in their previous game. Also, the Titans are 11-5-1 OVER their last 17 games after a loss dating to the last two seasons. The 49ers are #25 defensively, allowing 351.8 yards per game and they give up an average of 24.2 points, which is only #23 in the league.
