The Chargers scored six points in a 22-6 loss at Kansas City before their bye, and they come in at 0-6 with the league's lowest-scoring offense at 15 points a game. They rank last in EPA per play, which measures the points a team adds on each snap against expectation, and last in success rate and turnovers. Justin Herbert has been sacked 21 times and has thrown eight interceptions against five touchdowns, and the Chargers have not covered a spread. Mike McDaniel stays on as play-caller, and Jim Harbaugh has discussed the potential return of Joe Alt to the offensive line. The Rams are 3-4 and have not won consecutive games all season. They followed two straight one-score losses, to Buffalo and Arizona, and beat the Raiders 35-21 behind a season-high 199 rushing yards. Stafford threw for 195 yards on 4.9 air yards per attempt, the second straight week under five, and the offense is working without Davante Adams. An offense that leans on runs and short throws shortens the game, and Chargers games have finished UNDER the posted total in five of six. Myles Garrett is not expected back this week, so the Rams' injured defensive front meets a Chargers line that has allowed the third-most sacks in the NFL without him. I expect a Rams offense built to grind and a front missing Garrett to keep this game short on possessions and short on pressure. I'm taking the Chargers on the spread as my NFL Game of the Week.
