Kevin Stefanski and Shane Steichen both said the same thing this week: their starters will not play today. Stefanski is sitting Tua Tagovailoa and Atlanta's top unit, and Jack Strand has been taking first-team reps over Cooper Rush in practice, putting him in line to start under center. Steichen is doing the same with Daniel Jones, splitting the game between Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson Sr., who ran for a score and threw for a touchdown in his own preseason debut. That is two legitimate NFL arms, not camp fodder, running the show behind defenses stocked with roster-bubble players trying to make a final impression before cutdowns. Backup secondaries miss assignments. Backup pass rushers take bad angles. Those mistakes turn into explosive plays and extended drives more often than tight, disciplined starter football does, and the number on the board reads like it was built for two teams that are not walking onto this field.
