Green Bay Packers vs Indianapolis Colts Point Spread Picks

Both teams come off losses in Week 1, and Jordan Love will definitely miss this game and likely the rest of the preseason due to minor left thumb surgery. However, the Packers have a capable backup in Malik Willis while Sean Clifford and rookie Taylor Elgersman battle for the third spot. They will be facing a retooled and young Indianapolis offensive line. Based on last week's performances when the Packers lost 30-10 to the Jets, all the QBs will have an incentive to improve. Willis completed four of nine passes for 39 yards. Elgersman went 3-for-4 for 24 yards, and Clifford completed two of four for 14 yards. Amar Johnson was the bright spot with 67 rushing yards on seven carries for Green Bay. Indianapolis has a competition for starting quarterback, and neither one looks promising at this point. Anthony Richardson finished last in 2024 with a 47.7 percent completion rate and a 61.6 passer rating. Daniel Jones has a new team after six mediocre years with the Giants. He went 10-for-21 for 144 yards in the Colts' 24-16 loss to the Ravens. Riley Richardson completed 12 of 24 for 92 yards. Richardson left the game early with a dislocated right pinkie. First-place Green Bay opened as the underdog, and they've won both times as a dog this season, winning at Minnesota (43-34) as a +2 dog and a 37-30 victory at New Orleans as a +3 underdog. QB Aaron Rodgers (26 TDs, 3 INTs) is having a terrific season as the offense is sixth in total yards and passing, third in points (30.8 per game), while the defense is Top 10 in yards allowed. The Packers are 8-3 ATS versus winning teams, plus 48-23-1 ATS following a spread loss. Indianapolis is off an emotional win at Tennessee in a battle for first place in the AFC South. 38-year old QB Philip Rivers (11 TDs, 6 INTs) doesn't have dazzling stats, and the team hasn't had a difficult schedule. Two games ago they had a showdown at home with Baltimore and flopped in a 24-10 defeat. And QB Aaron Rodgers is 76-50 ATS against winning teams in the second half of the season. Play Green Bay.

The Packers have had trouble on offense this season with Aaron Rodgers reaching 300 yards only once thus far in seven games. Just when it appeared to get back on track, the defense was torched by Matt Ryan and the Falcons in a 33-32 loss on Sunday. Ryan was nearly perfect, completing 28-of-35 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The Falcons outgained the Packers 367-331 and Ryan hit Mohamed Sanu in the end zone with an 11-yard touchdown pass with just 31 seconds remaining to tie the game before the extra point won it. Green Bay is ranked 20th in the league in total offense yards per game (342.3) while Indianapolis is #13 (360.5). The Packers were counting on Eddie Lacy to bounce back from a disappointing season, but he is on injured reserve with an ankle injury. The Colts have split their last four games, including a fourth quarter meltdown against Houston. Andrew Luck has completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 16 touchdowns and five interceptions and should have success in this game. Indy is off an embarrassing performance vs. Kansas City in which the Colts were outgained by 145 yards and lost by 16 points. That is affecting this line and I like Indy's chances of bouncing back. Over the past two and a half seasons, the Colts are 8-1 ATS after a game in which they were outgained by 100+ yards. Chuck Pagano's teams have always gotten better as the season goes along as the Colts are 24-13 ATS under Pagano after the first month of the season. Take the points and play the Colts.
