Carolina Panthers vs Washington Commanders Point Spread Picks

Washington comes off a 30-23 loss at Baltimore as the Ravens dominated offensively, and the Commanders defense showed some vulnerability against a superior team. The Commanders managed to gain just 52 yards on the ground as Brian Robinson Jr. was out with a knee injury and he is questionable for this game. The Ravens enjoyed a 484-305 advantage in total offense yards. Washington has lost seven of its past nine home games outright and it is 2-9 its past 11 games against NFC opponents. The past seven times these teams have met in Washington they have gone UNDER. Carolina lost 38-20 to Atlanta and Andy Dalton was 26 of 38 for 221 yards and a touchdown, but with two interceptions. Dalton continues to be the right choice at quarterback as Bryce Young still needs some development. Washington is laying too many points coming off a loss and this is the highest posted total on the board this week. Take the points with the Panthers and the UNDER.

Carolina has a decision to make at quarterback with Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold competing for the starting role, but the former Cleveland QB would appear to have the advantage as the Panthers otherwise wouldn't have traded for him. Both will likely see action in this game, and Darnold is coming off of a season when he threw for 2,527 yards with nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Matt Corral will not be overlooked and actually has an outside chance of eventually starting after earning Second-Team All-SEC last season at Mississippi. PJ Walker gives the Panthers even more depth at the QB position, and he got into five games in his second season in 2021. Matt Ruhle went 1-1-1 ATS his first preseason last year, and Commanders coach Ron Rivera is 21-18 straight up and 19-19-1 ATS in the preseason. Washington has a lot of uncertainty regarding its quarterbacks as Carson Wentz hasn't looked particularly well in training camp and had a QB rating of just 54.7 last year with Indianapolis. Taylor Heinicke is still the fan-favorite in Washington after throwing for 3,419 yards with 20 TDs, but he also threw 15 interceptions for a QB rating of 39.9 in 2021. Rookies Sam Howell and Cole Kelley are the other backups. The Commanders went 0-3 ATS last year in the preseason, and Carolina has plenty of depth at quarterback. Take the Panthers for a Max Play.
