Buffalo Bills vs Carolina Panthers Point Spread Picks

Buffalo coach Sean McDermott is similar to John Harbough of the Ravens in that he likes to win preseason games. The Bills have won 10 preseason games in a row following their 42-15 rout of the Broncos last week as Josh Allen played a series and went three-for-three passing for 45 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown to Gabriel Davis, and Zach Moss and Duke Johnson each ran for two TDs. Case Keenum was 16 of 18 with no interceptions, and Matt Barkley completed seven of eight passes giving the Bills a lot of depth at the QB position. McDermott now is 12-5 straight up and 12-5 ATS in his preseason career, and Carolina coach Matt Ruhle is 2-3 SU and 2-2-1 ATS in his two years after splitting the first two games this year. The Panthers lost 20-10 to the Patriots with PJ Walker completing eight of 15 for 107 yards with two interceptions. . Carolina backup QB Matt Corral is out for the season. When Cam Newton arrived back in Carolina, it seemed to give the Panther's offense a much-needed boost. His first game was great as he declared he is back after scoring a TD. Things have really gone downhill after that game for the Panthers, and Newton hasn't just been ordinary, he has been awful. He enters this game with a QB rating of just 73.6. They have now also lost Christian McCaffrey for the season, and there is nowhere to turn. Buffalo has an elite defense, especially against weaker teams. The Buffalo QB is dealing with a toe injury and is listed as questionable, but I expect he will play, but how healthy is he if he doesn't. Carolina's defense is the best part of their team, and Buffalo has struggled scoring points as they have been held to 15 points or fewer in three of their last six games. Make the play on the UNDER.

The Bills had the No. 2 defense in efficiency last year, ranking #14 versus the run, second against the pass and added a lot of talent, including defensive tackle Ed Oliver with the ninth pick of the draft. They held the Colts to 16 points last week (just three points through three quarters). The Colts were 4-of-16 on third down, had no TD passes, and averaged 3.9 yards per rush. It's still a run-first offense (163 rushing yards in Week 1) with a weak QB rotation in Matt Barkley, Josh Allen and rookie Tyree Jackson. Carolina's defense is ahead of the offense, as well, holding Chicago to 13 points last week. After QB Cam Newton, the rotation drops off dramatically with Will Grier, Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke. These two teams played a joint practice this week and the Panthers' defensive line was impressive in one-on-one drills against the Bills' offensive line. Mario Addison, Kawann Short, Gerald McCoy and Bruce Irvin all managed to earn their way into Buffalo's backfield. Look for a lot more defense than offense from both teams.
