Atlanta Falcons vs New York Jets Point Spread Picks

As bad as the Jets have been, they still have a better record than the Falcons during the past six games. New York is 2-4, while Atlanta is 1-5. There is value in taking the Jets as a home underdog. The Falcons are an indoor carpet team playing outdoors and could be without their best wide receiver, Drake London, for a second straight game due to a PCL injury. Kirk Cousins, who at 37 looks washed up, is forced to play with the Falcons after losing starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. for the season. Cousins threw the most interceptions in the NFL last season, playing in just 14 games. Atlanta must heavily rely upon star running back Bijan Robinson. The Jets have improved their run defense, holding their past two opponents below 100 yards rushing. The Jets have a kicking edge. Their placekicker, Nick Folk, is 20-for-20 on field goals and perfect on 15 extra point tries, the only player to be perfect in both categories this season. Cool and rainy for this one as Atlanta heads north. Atlanta's offense is 16th in total yards and 22nd in points scored (19.4 per game). The Falcons are 51-31 UNDER off a win as an underdog and 39-19 UNDER after gaining 175+ rushing yards in the last game. New York's offense is a mess, 31st in total yards, 30th in points (14.8 per game), and dead-last on third down (24.14%). The Jets decided to go with third-string QB Tim Boyle (1 TD, 3 picks) last week and it still didn't help. They're on a 19-9 run UNDER the total, plus 80-52 UNDER in December games. New York won its first game 24-21 over Philadelphia even though quarterback Zach Wilson went out with a right knee injury and coach Robert Saleh still hasn't a lost a preseason game as he has won three of four games and the other ended in a tie last year for a 3-1 ATS record. Mike White came in and finished 10 of 20 for 98 yards and Chris Steveler was 6 0f 9 for 62 yards for New York. White had that great performance against Cincinnati on Halloween when he threw for 405 yards with an 82.2 completion percentage as the Jets won 34-31 last season. He'll figure to get more playing time behind Joe Flacco, who the Jets are planning to start behind the first-team offense tonight. Atlanta comes off a 27-23 win over Detroit with rookie Desmond Ridder completing 10 of 22 for 103 yards. It was Arthur Smith's first preseason win after losing all three last year and not covering the spread in any of them. New York hasn't made the playoffs in 11 years and it's trying instill a winning attitude especially in front of the home fans. Play the Jets.

New York comes into this game in London off a confidence-building, 27-24, victory over Tennessee in overtime for its first win of the season, and rookie Zach Wilson had his best game yet completing 21 of 34 for 297 yards and 2 touchdowns. The defense also came through, sacking Ryan Tannehill seven times. Meanwhile, Atlanta dropped to 1-3 by losing to Washington, 34-30, and the Falcons have lost eight of their last nine games dating to last season. Calvin Ridley had seven catches for 80 yards against Washington, but unfortunately, he will not be making the trip to London due to personal reasons. The Jets have been adequate defensively, and they are #15 in scoring defense, #13 in total yards allowed, and #7 in yards per play. Atlanta is 4-15 ATS its past 19 games in October and 1-6 ATS its past seven games in Week 5. Play the Jets.

New York has the big edge here in quarterback depth, and Atlanta's Dan Quinn continued his awful preseason record as the Falcons fell to 0-2 this year and 5-13 and 4-14 ATS in his head coaching career. Sam Darnold had a good opening series against the Giants last week, going 75 yards in seven plays, including passes of 32 and 38 yards and then a three-yard scoring pass to Jamison Crowder. Trevor Siemian came in and finished 13-of-16 for 77 yards with a touchdown. Luke Falk also was impressive in completing 9-of-11 for 69 yards and a TD. As expected, Matt Ryan didn't play for the Falcons and probably won't see much action the rest of the preseason. Matt Schaub looked much better then he did in the Hall of Fame Game completing 12-of-19 for 172 yards, and Matt Simms was 8-of-17 for 86 yards. Neither QB threw a touchdown pass. Atlanta is 1-4 ATS in Game 2s the last five years, and incredibly the Falcons are 0-12 ATS their last 12 preseason contests.
