Atlanta Falcons vs Miami Dolphins Point Spread Picks

Mike McDaniel has split six games in preseason in his two years as Miami coach and Raheem Morris is 5-7 straight up and 7-5 ATS with two teams, including 1-2 ATS his first year with Atlanta in 2023. The Dolphins are 5-1 ATS their past six preseason meetings with the Falcons, including 4-1 ATS with revenge and Miami lost last year's preseason meeting. Miami has covered seven of nine preseason games against NFC teams and Atlanta is 3-7 ATS its past 10 preseason road games. Miami backup quarterbacks behind Tua Tagovailoa are Mike White and Skylar Thompson. White has played 14 games in three NFL seasons, Thompson started three games in the 2022 season, including a playoff game against Buffalo and threw for 220 yards and the Dolphins were narrowly defeated 34-31 as 14-point underdogs. Atlanta's backups behind Kirk Cousins are Michael Penix Jr., and Taylor Heinicke. Atlanta comes off a bye week after beating the New York Jets, 27-20, and allowing only 64 yards rushing with 166 net passing yards in the Falcons' best defensive showing of the season. Matt Ryan completed 33 of 45 for 342 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions while Kyle Pitts caught nine passes for 119 yards. Miami arguably is the most disappointing team this year with a 1-5 record (2-4 ATS). The Dolphins are #30 in yards allowed and #30 in yards gained. What's worse is the Dolphins lost their fifth in a row to previously winless Jacksonville, 23-20, in London last week when Matthew Wright kicked a 53-yard field goal as time expired. Tua Tagovailoa finished 33 of 47 for 329 yards and an interception for Miami, and he is questionable this week with a rib injury. Game 1 did not go well at all for Atlanta as it resulted in a 20 point loss to the Titans, and not much went right. Miami also lost its opener, but it was in a more competitive fashion. The Dolphins lost by seven points to the Bears. Atlanta could not get anything going offensively as they fell behind early and could not get anything going. The Falcons came away from Game 1 with a total of 21 passing yards. The Dolphins posted 326 total yards, generating 15 first downs, and they controlled the time of possession. Atlanta finished last season 4-12, while Miami got to 10 wins, and the rebuilding process and roster depth are just ahead of the Falcons right now. Make the play on Miami.
