Dallas is just 5-13. However, the Mavericks have lost by more than 9 points only once in their last eight games. They have had some close defeats during this time frame. This includes losing to the Knicks by two points, the Clippers in overtime, and the Bucks by two points. Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall draft pick, has started to look better after a slow start. Dallas was idle on Sunday. Miami was not. The Heat had four of their players go at least 30 minutes in beating the 76ers, 127-117, in Philadelphia yesterday. So there is a possibility some Miami starters could sit out for rest. Unlike previous seasons, the Heat are playing at a much faster tempo. So playing on consecutive days is tough for them. There is also the chance Anthony Davis returns to Dallas' lineup today. That would be a nice bonus as Davis is the Mavericks' best player. But even if he doesn't, the Mavericks should stay within single digits of Miami. Take the Mavericks.
