Don't expect the Pistons to get in a track meet with the Heat, who lead the league in pace. Detroit may have tired legs after a five-game West Coast trip that concluded Tuesday with a 128-106 victory over the Lakers. That was the Pistons' sixth UNDER in their last eight games. The Heat rank sixth in the NBA in scoring. They want to run. The Pistons play at a much slower tempo compared to Miami. Detroit gives up the fifth-fewest points per game in the NBA at 112.7. The Pistons also rank No. 2 in defensive field goal percentage and are fourth in defensive rebounding. The Heat have a strong perimeter defense. They rank in the top five both in defensive field goal percentage and 3-point defensive percentage. Despite their fast pace, the Heat have gone UNDER in eight of their last 12 games. The good news for the Pistons is they are an impressive 15-4. The bad news is they have lost consecutive games for the first time this season after winning 13 in a row. Detroit is not going to lack motivation to get back to its winning ways. Miami is coming off a three-day Thanksgiving break, having last played on Wednesday. The Heat defeated the Bucks in their last game, 106-103, extending their winning streak to six. Miami doesn't figure to be as fired up as Detroit, which lost a tough, 112-109, road game to Orlando last night. Cade Cunningham was brilliant in that game with a triple-double: 39 points, 13 boards, and 11 assists. The matchup edge the Pistons have here, though, is rebounding. Detroit ranks third in offensive rebounding and ninth in defensive rebounding. Detroit's Jalen Duren is the NBA's third-leading rebounder, averaging 11.8 per game. The Detroit Pistons won 14 games all of last season and already have ten wins before Christmas this season. The Pistons are becoming much more competitive and no longer an automatic win. Miami has won four straight games, but that comes with a caveat. All four of those wins came at home. The road has been a different animal for this Miami Heat team. Miami is 1-3 SU in their last four road games and has failed to cover all four games. Miami may think they have an easy one tonight, as the Pistons were the worst team in the league last year, but be ready for a surprise and make the play on Detroit.
