Max Scherzer surprisingly was a substitute for the All-Star Game after looking like a shoo-in earlier in the season, but the right-hander is 9-6 with a 3.21 ERA, and he has allowed just two earned runs and five hits in 13 2/3 innings against the Mets this year. He also had a 1.82 ERA and .152 opponent batting average against them in 2015. Six of Scherzer's last seven outings have been quality starts, including a tough 1-0 loss to Milwaukee on Monday when he gave up just four hits in six innings making the due-factor in his favor for this game. Logan Verrett gets the call for New York, and he comes into the game with an overall 4.01 ERA while walking 22 batters in 49 1/3 innings. In five starts, Verrett is 1-3 with a 5.32 ERA.
