Texas at Los Angeles

MacKenzie Gore looked like his best self last time out, tossing six scoreless innings against a playoff-caliber Giants lineup, exactly the form Texas needs after activating him off the paternity list. Reid Detmers brings his own recent history against this Texas club into tonight, and it's a strong one: back in May he came within a hit of a perfect game against the Rangers, eight innings, one hit allowed, a career-high 14 strikeouts. Neither offense scares anyone right now. Texas is scoring at a below-average clip, and the Angels have the worst record in the American League at 45-72, the kind of lineup that struggles to string together the multi-run innings that push a total over. Both bullpens carry respectable earned run averages, and if Gore and Detmers work into the sixth or seventh the way they're each capable of, there isn't much length left for either pen to give up a crooked number. This is a pitching matchup that's produced a near no-hitter once already this season. UNDER is the play tonight.
