LOSS

It has been a flip-flop for these two opposing pitchers in this game. Kyle Lohse was having a good season if it ended in early May. He was sailing along to a 3.21 ERA, had a 12 K game and then the wheels fell off. Lohse has been miserable in his last eight starts. He has allowed 63 hits in 51 innings and his ERA is 6.71. The signs of his depleted confidence shows up in his walks. He has now become bat shy, as he has walked more in the last two games than any two other back-to-back starts. Adam Wainwright has been just the opposite. He was on his way to pitching his way out of the rotation with a 6.34 ERA through eight starts, but has done an about-face. He has worked 46 innings allowing 45 hits with an ERA of 2.93. While the Reds are 2-10 in Lohse's last 12 starts, the Cards are 9-6, 60% in all of Wainwright's starts. The Reds have become the first team to 50 losses. What would they do without Aaron Harang? As bad as they have been they are downright awful without Harang. This team is 18-45, 28.6% with anyone else on the mound, and just 9-21 30% at home. They bring a 6.31 team ERA over the past week into this game and to make matters worse, they are among the worst teams in baseball against LHP, with an 11-19 mark. St. Louis has not had a good season, but they have played much better as they have improved upon a 20-29 start with a 15-12 run and should get by the hapless Reds tonight.
