After a few down years, the New York Yankees have gotten some good mileage out of their aging veterans, and more importantly, they have stayed relatively healthy. They have had a lot of recent success against the Mariners, as they have beaten the disappointing M's six straight times, limiting them to 2.2 runs per contest. Tonight the Yankees will send their best pitching option to the mound in Masahiro Tanaka. Tanaka has had his own success against Seattle, owning a 2-0 record against them and a 1.69 ERA, including a one-hit gem in his last time facing them. Tanaka has been very good, and the M's have yet to solve him, or for that matter, they have yet to solve many good pitchers of late at 4-10 in their last 14 vs. a pitcher with a WHIP of 1.15 or less.
