Houston snapped a rare three-game skid with a 4-2 win over the Mariners on Thursday as Alex Bregman hit a two-run homer in the first and a tiebreaking double in the eighth for the Astros, who still lead the AL West by 11 games and are 31-14 at home. Seattle had a 14-game winning streak before losing three straight to Houston last weekend, and the Mariners have scored only 10 runs in their last four games against the Astros. Justin Verlander has been his old self since returning from Tommy John surgery, and he has a 13-3 record with a 1.86 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP. The Astros have won 12 of his last 14 starts, and he has usually given them six or seven innings, including a 3-1 victory over the Mariners on Saturday when Verlander allowed one run on four hits in seven innings.
