Don't look now, but the San Diego Padres are now tied with the Dodgers for top spot in the NL West. The Padres have been doing a good job on the mound, holding 12 of their last 17 opponents to four or fewer runs. Nick Pavetta takes the ball for the Padres today, and he has allowed just 12 total runs in his eight previous starts. San Francisco is looking to avoid a series sweep and hands the ball to rookie reliever-turned-starter Kai-Wei Teng. The Giants have slipped a game below .500 at home during this series (29-30), and they're just 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position, but still 10th best in the majors for the season. Both pitchers could benefit from the early start at Oracle Park, and I'm looking for the home side to grind out a much-needed win.
