San Diego at Philadelphia

The Phillies swept the Padres in San Diego last week, and now this series shifts to Citizens Bank Park with a pitching matchup that couldn’t be more lopsided. Zack Wheeler has posted a 2.27 ERA through seven starts, and dating to 2024, he’s gone at least six innings and allowed two runs or fewer in 19 of his last 21 outings. Across from him, Lucas Giolito is walking more batters than he’s striking out in 2026, carries a 4.97 ERA and 1.74 WHIP, and didn’t last three innings in his previous start. The Padres’ record makes them look like a capable opponent — and they are — but Giolito is a significant liability, and the market may actually be generous to San Diego at this price.
