Six runs got scored Thursday night when these two opened this series, and Miami's part in that modest total says more about where this offense stands than the final score does. The Marlins have lost ten straight games, scoring 2.6 runs a night during that stretch and hitting .223 as a team over their last ten. JP Sears has been a different pitcher since the calendar flipped to July, posting a 2.51 ERA across three starts after a rocky start to his Padres tenure. Eury Pérez counters off arguably his best outing of the year, six scoreless innings and nine strikeouts against Milwaukee last time out. San Diego's bullpen has also turned a corner this month, working to a sub-3.30 ERA over the past week. Miami hasn't shown signs of snapping out of it even against pitching far less sharp than what Sears has flashed lately, and this UNDER doesn't need either arm to be dominant, just competent, against a team that can't buy a run right now.
