Pittsburgh at Milwaukee

Pittsburgh and Milwaukee have split the season series down the middle, five apiece, but that even record is starting to look like an outlier. The Pirates have lost seven of their last ten, three by shutout-adjacent scores of 0-3, 0-11, and 0-2, and now Ryan O'Hearn, one of the few thump bats holding that lineup together, is out with a quad strain that landed him on the injured list days ago. Bubba Chandler takes the mound tonight carrying a walk rate pushing five per nine innings, 55 free passes in just over 100 innings, and a lineup like Milwaukee's does not need many favors to turn one shaky inning into a laugher. The Brewers own the best record in the National League and a run differential that separates them from nearly the whole league, backed by a bullpen running three-quarters of a run lower in ERA than anything Pittsburgh can turn to behind Chandler. Brandon Sproat has had his own rough outings, but Milwaukee's lineup has bailed him out before, and a cold Pirates offense gives this Brewers team the room to pull away late instead of nursing a one-run margin.
