For the first time in three seasons, the Oakland A's have met with adversity and they certainly haven't worn it well. The A's won the AL West each of the last two seasons, and looked to be heading for a third until the Halos caught fire, and the A's hit a skid. They will be in a mega pitching matchup with Sonny Gray slated against Felix Hernandez. Sonny Gray certainly has the pedigree against Seattle to out-pitch Hernandez here, as he owns a career record of 4-1 with a 2.39 ERA against the Mariners. In all important division games, Gray has pitched the A's to an 11-3 mark in his last 14 division starts. If there has been a weak spot for King Felix, it is going against a team off a poor offensive showing as he is 3-9 in his last 12 starts when facing a team that scored 2 or fewer in their previous game.
