New York at Los Angeles

The Yankees have taken three of the last four meetings with the Angels this season, and tonight's series opener sets up the same way. New York arrives at 78-59, second in the AL East, while Los Angeles sits at 52-85, buried in the West and just 29-42 at home. Elmer Rodriguez gets the ball for New York, and his own line is shaky, 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA in his rookie look, but my read is that he's backed by a Yankees pitching staff carrying a collective 3.20 ERA that leads all of baseball. Walbert Urena has been the one bright spot of a lost Angels season, going 8-5 with a 2.98 ERA, and he needs to be sharp again tonight because the lineup behind him gives him almost no cushion. Los Angeles ranks among the American League's worst pitching staffs once you get past their rookie right-hander, and Rodriguez doesn't have to match Urena pitch for pitch with that kind of support at his back.
