Are the playoffs here yet? No but today in Boston it's going to feel like it. These two teams are just 1.5 games apart in the AL East and as such, this series is huge. The two teams have split their first ten meetings. The Yankees are favored here on the road due tot he pitching matchup. Jason Johnson has been fairly poor this year and is just 1-6 at home. Chien-Ming Wang has been solid with a 13-5 record. But, Wang is just over .500 with a pedestrian 5.21 ERA on the road. He hasn't pitched that well of late giving up 9 earned runs in 18 innnings in his last three starts including 5 in 5 innings vs. the Angels in his last outing. He's also 1-2 with a 5.11 ERA vs. the Red Sox. What strikes me as funny is that the Yankees are favored here as the visitor. They are 11-16 here over the past three seasons and Boston is looking to defend their house. This is their seventh straight home game and they are 16-2 this season at home after 5+ home games this season! At home the Red Sox are 39-19 scoring 5.7 per game. Versus right-handed pitchers, that goes up to 5.9 per game and over their past seven games they are scoring 6.3 per game. New York averaged 5.5 per game on the road, 5.3 vs. righties and 4.1 over their last seven games. Take the offense of Boston and the home field advantage here and go with the home underdog in game one.
