Ryne Nelson turned around a troubled season over five May starts, dropping his ERA from above seven to 4.65 — a real accomplishment. But his tendency to get hit in clusters hasn't vanished; two blowups in April still define the full-season line. Justin Wrobleski is running one of the quieter breakout seasons in the NL, a 2.87 ERA across nine starts, with his last outing his best — seven innings, one hit, nine strikeouts against a red-hot Philadelphia lineup. The Los Angeles order is built to punish a pitcher who leans heavily on one pitch, with Ohtani and Freeman at the front of a lineup that can do damage in any inning.
