Las Vegas at Seattle

I had Seattle at two units in this same series last night, and it got away late: an early lead gave way when Oakland erupted for five runs in the third, and two more Oakland runs in the fifth held up the rest of the way. George Kirby gets the ball tonight looking to keep this set from turning into a sweep against a team that came in at 56-86. Kirby carries a 4.19 ERA that undersells his stuff, having thrown seven-plus innings of one-run ball against Philadelphia two starts ago, and tonight he draws Jeffrey Springs, whose 6.37 ERA and 3-13 record sit at the bottom of the league. Springs has been rocked in three of his last five turns, including seven runs allowed in 4.2 innings his last time out, and Oakland has already leaned twice on the same bullpen arm to close out the first two games here. Seattle is 66-76 and has dropped two straight, but neither loss came with Kirby on the mound, and tonight the Mariners send out their best arm against the league's worst rotation piece.
