No team won more games behind a single starter than the Detroit Tigers did with Max Scherzer on the mound. The Tigers were 25-7 behind Scherzer. The record is impressive, but many pitchers had better years, as his 2.90 ERA on the season was good, but not indicative of the number of wins the team recorded. He was the beneficiary of 5 runs in 17 starts. When you look at him only in games vs. teams with a winning record, the ERA was 3.35. Contrast that to the season of A's starter Bartolo Colon. Colon's last nine starts vs. a winning team produced an ERA of 2.13. When you look at his home mark during that period it was 1.42. Home underdogs in game one of a series that won more than 95 regular season games are a 70% winning proposition. The A's are 8-0 to a line of +110 to +150 in their last eight, and 64-26 in their last 90 here vs. a right-handed starter, as well as 9-1 behind Colon in a series opener. Colon has led the A's to a 25-5 mark when he takes the mound following a quality start in his last outing. Take Oakland.
