Detroit at Arizona

Arizona's Brandon Pfaadt went 13-9 last season. That won-lost record is misleading, though. It came with a 5.25 ERA. That is in line with Pfaadt's typical ERA, which was 4.71 in 2024 and 5.73 in 2023. Pfaadt is getting the start today against Detroit's Casey Mize, a former No. 1 draft pick. Mize has been held back in his career because of injuries. But he stayed healthy enough last season to post a 14-6 record with a 3.87 ERA. The Diamondbacks don't figure to have it as easy today as they did last night when they roughed up 43-year-old Justin Verlander in a 9-6 victory. Both Mize and Pfaadt are making their first starts of the season. Detroit has the deeper bullpen with Kenley Jansen, Kevin Finnegan, Will Vest, and Tyler Holton. Detroit has several left-handed hitters that can take advantage of the right-handed Pfaadt in Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, and Colt Keith, who was 2-for-5 with two RBI's last night. Take the Tigers.
