Chicago at Seattle

I had the Mariners in that same extra-run spot against Milwaukee on Wednesday, and it cashed as Seattle ground out a 7-5 win that kept the number honest. Tonight the matchup shifts to pitching, and that's where the value sits. David Peterson takes the ball for Chicago, carrying a 5.29 ERA and a 2.02 WHIP that have kept traffic on the bases all year, the kind of start that usually means a short outing and an early bullpen workload. Seattle counters with Kade Anderson, the well-regarded left-hander the Mariners have been building toward all season, making his major league debut in a home park that has played tough on hitters for years. A first look at big-league bats from a fresh arm with swing-and-miss stuff tends to suppress scoring before hitters have a book on him, and neither offense walks in with much thump: Seattle's team OPS sits near the bottom of the American League, and Chicago's lineup has not been doing the kind of consistent damage its overall numbers suggest. Two shaky-to-unknown starters, two so-so bats, and a park that already favors pitching. The UNDER is my play tonight.
