San Diego opened this series with an 8-0 win last night, and Michael King carried a no-hitter into the seventh before finishing with seven innings of one-hit ball. One shutout doesn't erase what Chicago did all year. The Cubs scored more runs than anyone in baseball at 5.25 a game, and they took five of six from San Diego. The difference tonight is on the mound. Kevin Gausman has a 4.83 ERA in nine starts since the Cubs acquired him from Toronto, and his road ERA this season is 5.40. Nick Pivetta has a 1.45 ERA in four starts since coming off the injured list in September, and a 2.86 ERA with a 1.01 WHIP overall. He hasn't gone past five innings in any of those starts, which hands the middle innings to a Padres bullpen that ranks fifth in the majors with a 3.53 ERA and needed only two relievers last night. San Diego went 51-30 at home, and all three games of this series are in San Diego. The Padres are the bet to close this out tonight.
